If you enjoy gardens, the national gardens treasure at Hestercombe House is nearby and well worth a visit. If you choose to be a little more adventurous with a desire to get out and about, there’s plenty to entertain you, including a day at Taunton Races or at Taunton Polo Club or a day watching the cricket at Somerset County Cricket Club.

Historic attractions such as Stonehenge and Glastonbury Tor and Abbey are within easy reach. So too are the beautiful cities of Bath, Wells and Exeter. Even closer is the 11th C Cistercian abbey, Forde Abbey, as well as magnificent stately homes such as Montacute House and Barrington Court. For garden lovers, the magnificent Hestercombe Gardens are only a short drive away.

If you're a horse racing enthusiast, you'll almost certainly want to visit Taunton Race Course. If cricket is your sport, Somerset County Cricket Club is only about three miles away in the middle of Taunton. Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club is also nearby.

Walkers are spoilt for choice. There is excellent walking on the Blackdown and Quantock Hills, both on our doorstep. To the north, there are the Mendip Hills, to the east the Somerset Levels, and to the west, the wide open spaces of Exmoor, the perfect tonic for the office-bound and the Exmoor Safari is a must-do. To the south is the South West Coast Path overlooking the spectacular East Devon heritage coast. Even Lyme Regis is only 45 minutes drive away. And if you're more interested in touring rather than walking, the local picturesque villages complete with historic pubs and cricket greens make a delightful itinerary. Europe’s largest carnival of its kind, Bridgwater Carnival, is only 12 miles away. Clarks Village, one of the premier outlet shopping destinations in the country, is also not far away.
